Update on Mom; Teri

Mom has been moved upstairs to a Long Term Care setting. She is still not eating much, does not stand or transfer on her own. But each day she improves a little; her hand is opening up, she is more conversive, participates in some of the activities and is adjusting to her new 'home'.

Just 2 weeks ago she did not respond, could not remember her name, hands were clenched tightly and she did not eat at all. And so she certainly has surprised us all.

She is receiving excellent care, is safe and will most likely remain where she is for some time. At night she listens to the CD "Hymns for the Journey" and sings along with me as she goes to sleep each night. I never thought of how this CD might be such a valuable part of my own mothers life when it was put together for other shut ins a few years ago. Even when I am not with her, she can still listen to my voice.

Watching a loved on decline is difficult, we are helpless in even our grandest gestures of effort to make much of a difference in the ultimate destiny they will face. However it is of some re-assurance during this journey to realize that she is not alone, even without family, friends, familiar faces and surroundings, she is indeed in the pressence and constant care of Jesus Christ.

May God Bless my mother with peace, comfort, and safety in this final journey of her life. And may he grant the same to your loved ones who may be traveling a similar path.

Returning to my blog to share about my mom....

It's been a long time!

For those of you have been following my email updates about my mom, thank you for visiting my blog. Anyone else stopping by, sorry I don't have time right now to include all the details, but will eventually...

This is a pix of mom in November. This picture is a part of the power point presentation I put together for the company I work for. Mom in her new career as a model... she had a blast!

She is more alert today, responsive and actually remembers more than in past months. Aricept for the Dementia seems to be making a difference.

Weak, hands are still curled up, eating a bit more (puree foods)

My friend Kathy met me at the Nursing Home tonight, it was a blessing for mom to see her, but for me too. Watching a loved one decline is not easy, having someone come along aside is truly an act of love and symbolizes how much Jesus cares for us and 'walks along side' us through our lives.

We prayed with mom before we left.
Thank you for listening:-)
